The 2 o'clock Hunger

It's that time of day there are not many students in the writing center and all the tasks of a tutor have been completed. So what I ask is there left to do? Well I answer with read. Now I may be the only one that finds this much down time while at the WLDC in the afternoon, but I have made a nice dent in the books "Drive" and " How to Watch T.V. News". One is a much smoother read than the other, just F.Y.I.

  1. Ah, I found this to be true, too. But I wonder which one you found smoother, and if it's the same one I found....

I thought TV News read like a rough first (maybe second) draft of an actual book. Good ideas, just rough around the edges. I keep wanting to re-write it. My hubris showing, I suppose.

  2. I am not tutoring after 2PM on any day, so I don't know how much down time there would be. It seems I have very little down time when I'm there. Yet, like you, when I do, I read. I have been trying to get further in "How to Watch TV News". I really haven't gotten very far but I am learning a lot about it just by working with the students. I wish I had time at home to read something besides what I must for my classes. If I did I'd ask to borrow a copy. I really think as much as I've seen that book come up when tutoring that it would be good if I could finish it.

  3. I started reading "How to Watch TV News", but didn't get very far into it either. I have been working with a lot of students that are reading it and seem to be struggling with how to utilize the information in the book. I figured it would probably be a good book to read on my free time.

I haven't picked up "Drive" yet. Rosemary was reading it last week and talked about it briefly. I would definitely like to read that one. It seems to have a lot of interesting ideas, whereas "How to Watch TV News" just seems to be a bit rough.
